Objective Spontaneous awakening trials (SATs) improve outcomes in mechanically ventilated patients, but implementation remains erratic. We examined variation in reported practice, prevalence of attitudes and fears regarding SATs, and organizational practices associated with routine implementation of SATs in an ICU quality improvement collaborative.
