The Development of Prediction and Control of Welding Deformation

This paper is an overview of the development of prediction and control of welding deformation. Some theories and methods used in the prediction are introduced, including thermal-elasto-plastic theory, finite element analysis (FEA) accounting for phase transformation and other coupled processes, elastic visco-plastic FEA, method of inherent strain, similitude theory and artificial neural net work. Some methods used in the control of welding deformation, such as reverse deformation, system analysis, controlling process parameters and temperature field, are introduced. Some problems that should be further studied are discussed.
