HIV/AIDS: Here to Stay for a Long Time.

Despite the rapid increase in knowledge regarding the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and molecular virology of HIV-1 and the continued advances in chemotherapy, HIV/AIDS will be with us for a long time to come. In that vein, it is winning the host-pathogen battle. It is likely that the much-anticipated breakthrough will involve a heretofore unknown and innovative strategy or approach in preventative and therapeutic vaccines, immunotherapy, expanded chemotherapy, and/or viral gene silencing.
