Background Cardiac surgery is associated with inflammation and oxidative stress; malondialdehyde (MDA) is a marker of oxidative stress and osteopontin (OPN) is a proinflammatory cytokine. We studied MDA kinetics following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and its relation to OPN.
