Protective effects of 3,6-dimethamidodibenzopyriodonium citrate on myocardial ischemia in rats

2003
Objective To observe the influence of 3,6-dimethamidodibenzopyrio-donium citrate(iodiumheterocycle,I-65)on acute myocardial ischemia in rats. Methods Rats were subjected to left coronary artery ligation to induce myocardial infarction. The size of myocardial infarct, the activities of creatine kinase and lactate dehydro-genase as well as the content of free fatty acid in serum after ischemia 24 h were determined. Results Intravenous injection of I-65 0.5 and 1.0 mg/kg 5 min before ligation and 30 min after ligation, significantly reduced the size of myocardial infarct after ischemia for 24 h and decreased the activities of creatine kinase as well as lactate dehydrogenase in serum. I-65 also reduced the content of serum free fatty acid. Conclusion I-65 had protective effects on ischemic myocardium in rats.
