The relationship between serum matrix metallopeptidase 9, metallopeptidase inhibitor 1, adiponectin and albuminuria in hypertension patients

2013
Objective To explore serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9),metallopeptidase inhibitor-1 (TIMP-1) and adiponectin (ADPN) and their correlation with albuminuria in hypertension patients. Methods A total of 175 adults who had health check-up in our center were enrolled in this investigation. All the subjects were tested for blood pressure, urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR),fasting glucose, lipoprotein and serum creatinine. The subjects were then assigned to the normal control, albuminuria, hypertension, hypertension + albuminuria group, and serum MMP-9,TIMP-1 and ADPN were measured.Studnet's t test was used for data anlysis. Results The serum levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in hypertensive patients were significantly higher than those of the normal controls (P < 0.05 or P <0.01).Serum MMP-9 in hypertension + albuminuria group was higher than that of the hypertension group (P< 0.05).ADPN was significantly lower in hypertension + albuminuria group (P < 0.05).Conclusion Serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1 may be in significantly increased in hypertensive patients. The balance of MMP-9/TIMP-1 and serum ADPN could be involved in the pathogenesis of albuminuria in patients with hypertension.
