Cells density-sensitive terahertz biosensor based on ITO metasurface array

2021
Considerable attention has been paid on cellular detection by using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) over the recent decades. In this study, indium tin oxide (ITO) based complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) metasurface was designed as a biosensor to distinguish the density of the tumor cells. Structural parameters of the ITO metasurface was optimized by COMSOL. Enhanced THz signal on the ITO metasurface made the identification for the tiny changes of cell to be possible. It could be also observed that a red-shift of the resonance peaks with the number of cells increasing, which may indicate that the proposed ITO-based CSRR metasurface may play a significant role in terahertz biosensing applications.
