Targeted surveillance in management of catheter-related blood stream infection and intervention

Objective To search for an efficient method to reduce the incidence of catheter-related blood stream infection(CRBSI) by taking targeted surveillance and intervention measures.Methods Targeted surveillance and intervention measures had been taken from May 2007.Patients with central venous catheterization were investigated, retrospective survey for data in March and April of 2007,and prospective surveillance from May of 2007 were conducted.Results The morbidity of CRBSI was 7.5‰(33/4411) in March and April of 2007,decreased to 4.3‰(51/11817) during May to September of 2007 and 2.7‰(88/32086) in the last year.Conclusion By establishing a special organization to monitor the hospital infecion in high risk departments,conducting targeted surveillance on the special area and procedures,defining the diagnostic standards of CRBSI, standardizing operational procedure,carrying out the education on CRBSI and field intervention,the CRBSI morbidity can be decreased obviously.
