Diagnosis of anemia – a synoptic overview and practical approach

Abstract Anemia is common in everyday clinical practice. In the following, the characteristics of apparently proven as well as new biomarkers are presented – for diagnosis and therapy control, considering their diagnostic value. In spite of new diagnostic tools, the importance of microscopy in hematological manifestations is illustrated. Based on a classification of anemia, a strategy is proposed for an economic diagnosis of different types of anemia and their predisposition.
