Folic Acid Deficiency in Hemochromatosis: Probably Due to a Defective Storage of Folic Acid in the Liver

1965
Folio acid deficiency was demonstrated in a child with hemochromatosis probably due to numerous blood transfusions for pure red cell anemia. A defective storage of folio acid was suggested as an important factor con-tributing to the development of folio acid deficiency in hemochromatosis, basing upon the findings showing a rapid folio acid clearance from blood and the absence of defective intestinal absorption of folio acid of either free or conjugated form.
