Transgenesis and genome editing in chickens

Abstract The chicken has been in the spotlight of research attention for decades because of its prominence as both a biological model and an agricultural animal. Due to the availability of its genome sequence information and the development of certain necessary tools and technologies, precision manipulation of the chicken genome has begun to gain momentum. In this chapter, we review the history and current state of chicken genome manipulation, with specific focus on recent developments in the field, including review of currently available tools and resources for genome manipulation based on discoveries in recombinant DNA technology and embryonic engineering.
