Seismic study of tectonic evolution in the Central Part of the Pannonian Basin, Hungary

1996
The studied area is located at the boundary of two megatectonic units of different origin (North Pannonian and Tisza), along the Mid-Hungarian Line. In this zone two basins of different age are superimposed: the Szolnok flysch trough and the Pannonian basin. The first was filled up during the Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene, while the development of the other one started in the Middle Miocene time, and it still continues. On the basis of our local investigation we can draw conclusions concerning the time dependent relation between the two megatectonic units, and the interdependence of the superimposed basins. Since the studied area occupy a key position in the Carpathian-Pannonian region the results of our analysis can contribute its more detailed description.
