Study on Effects of Clinical Pathways on the Hospital Stay and Cost of Patients with Ureteral Calculi

AbstractObjective. To discuss the effect of clinical pathways applied to ureteroscopic lithotomy for ureteral calculi. Method. By retrospective investigation and a concurrent comparative analysis, the hospital stays, preoperative hospital stays, hospitalization costs, expenses on medication, and so on, for patients receiving ureteroscopic lithotomy for ureteral calculi in 2013, without or with clinical pathways implemented, were compared and analyzed. Results. Compared with the control group, the average hospital stay of the CP group is shortened by 1.72 days, the average hospitalization cost is reduced by 3,012.47 Yuan, and the average expense on medication is reduced by 1,613.32 Yuan; there is a statistically significant difference (P 0.05).
