Total Synthesis of MC2, a Peptide from Momordica Charantia and Its Hypoglycemic Activity

Abstract Aim To synthesize peptide MC2 isolated from Momordica Charantia and test its hypoglycemic activity. Methods The synthesis of MC2 was under microwave irradiation, using Fmoc/t-Bu orthogonal protection solid phase strategy. The crude peptide was purified by preparative RP-HPLC. The biological activity of MC2 was tested in the alloxan-induced diabetic mice. Results The peptide MC2 was rapidly and efficiently synthesized with a reduction of the blood glucose level. Conclusion The MC2 was synthesized and was found to have hypoglycemic activity.
