Preparation and photocatalytic performance of monolayer inorganic oxide nanosheets

2020
Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) metal oxide nanosheets with ultrathin thickness have triggered extremely enthusiasm, based on their tunable electronic structures, huge specific surface areas, and abundant surface states. Over the past decades, they have received an extraordinary increased research in various applications. In this brief chapter, we focus on the monolayer metal oxide nanosheets to summarize the main preparation methods and their photocatalytic applications in water splitting, CO2 reduction, and organic transformation. Based on our previous studies, we concentrate on the structural, electronic, and surface properties of the nanosheets to explore their interactions with the substrates for understanding the photocatalytic chemistry on a molecular scale. Finally, we introduce a strategy of surface coordination chemistry into the 2D nanosheets rational design via interface/surface engineering to achieve more effective application.
