Insulin detemir combined with metformin for type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective To investigate the efficacy of the insulin detemir combined with metformin for type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods Forty type 2 diabetic patients with inadequate glycemic controlled by oral antidiabetic drugs were given insulin detemir combined with metformin treatment for twelve weeks.Height,weight,fasting blood glucose(FBG),2 hours postprandial blood glucose(2hPBG) and glycohemoglobin A1c(HbA1c) were measured before and after twelve weeks treatment.Results Compared with before treatment,the levels of FBG,2hPBG and HbA1c after treatment were decreased significantly(P0.05),but the body mass index was no significant difference(P0.05).During treatment period,5 patients(12.5%) experienced hypoglycemia,and no serious hypoglycemia was evident.Conclusion Insulin detemir combined with metformin for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who are poorly controlled by oral antidiabetic drugs is efficient.
