Prior to the use of effective topical antimicrobial therapy, infection of the burn wound was the leading cause of mortality in patients with extensive burns. Actually, pneumonia is the most frequent life-threatening infection encountered in burn patients. The burn patient is an ideal, fully designated victim to present infectious pulmonary complications:
