Biostratigrafisk indelning av den Mesozoiska lagerföljden i Köpingsbergsborrningen 3, Skåne

1988
In 1987 Swedish Exploration Consortium AB carried out a drilling (Kopingsbergsborrningen 3) in the Vomb Trough, Scania, southern Sweden. The borehole was sited near the town of Ystad and reached the Precambrian crystalline basement at a depth of 1160 m. Foraminiferal faunas obtained from the drill-cuttings indicate that the boring penetrated a Cretaceous and possibly uppermost Jurassic sequence, which directly overlies the Precambrian basement. The Cretaceous sequence is generally richly fossiliferous and the foraminiferids suggest that it comprises at least the Maastrichtian to the Barrernian (50-980 m). The sedimentary sequence below 980 m has not yielded any stratigraphically important species. Between 1090 and 1160 m the boring penetrated predominantly unfossiliferous clays, which seem to represent the Vitaback Clays (Cretaceous-Jurassic transition beds). The absence of fossils in these clays may be due to deposition in limnic or brackish environments.
