Clinical significance for change of homocysteine in patients with different degrees of pulmonary thromboembolism

2014
Objective To detect the serum level of homocysteine in patients with different degrees of pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) evaluated by Wells method,to explore the correlation between homocysteine level and risk of PTE.Methods 59 patients with PTE in our hospital were collected. The risk degrees of pulmonary embolism were classified by Wells method.Among them,19 patients had low risk,27 patients had moderate risk, and 13 patients had high risk.20 healthy subjects were selected as controls. The serum level of homocysteine was detected and the correlation of it with the risk of pulmonary embolism was analyzed. Results Compared with the control group, the homocysteine levels in low, moderate, high risk group were increased significantly. With the increase of risk, the homocysteine level was also rised. There was a positive correlation. Conclusions Homocysteine may be one of important factors in the pathogenesis of PTE.Serum homocysteine not only can be used as predictors of PTE,but also has a certain implications for the risk degree of pulmonary embolism. Key words: Homocysteine; Wells score; Pulmonary thromboembolism
