Advantages and detriments of 1-Directional 3-Component wave propagation approach for Soil-Structure Interaction modeling

2017
Abstract The effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) in the seismic response of soil and buildings should be considered in structural design. The one-directional three-components (1D-3C) approach is proposed. It represents an efficient simplification for dynamic analysis. The reliability of the 1D-3C model is proved by comparison with the three-dimensional (3D) model. Numerical simulations in the case of vertical seismic wave propagation, weak ground motions and rigid shallow foundation of the building are presented and discussed.
