The author argues that the initial step in motor vehicle crash prevention is reframing crash terminology. "Accidents" connote incidents that are both unpredictable and unpreventable. Motor vehicle crashes in the United States are the leading cause of death and injury that is predictable and preventable. There are several different forms of prevention strategies. The author discusses crash fatality reduction success using a public health approach utilizing environment, engineering, and education.
