Introduction of radar techniques in urban propagation to model far-field buildings scattering

Efforts in improving Ray-Tracing (RT) tools in urban scenarios led us to propose a method based on radar signature of building facades to model urban propagation. Radar Cross Sections (RCS) of various homogeneous building facades are calculated and summed coherently at the observation point to predict far-field scattering in urban environment. In this method full tree-dimensional approach, bistatic RCS are calculated by combining the Kirchhoff integral and the high-frequency geometrical optics (GO) in order to take into account multiple bounces of electromagnetic (EM) waves between buildings. This method is suited to be incorporated into ray-tracing codes and accelerate them. The proposed approach is validated through comparisons with the Finite Element Method (FEM) using the commercial numerical simulator HFSS.
