Severe vitamin deficiencies

The prevalence of vitamin deficiencies is underes- timated. Risk factors for these deficiencies should be reco- gnized in the intensive care unit. Some among these defi- ciencies can be fatal including Wernicke encephalopathy, shoshin beriberi, and scurvy; however they may recover dra- matically with appropriate supplementation.
