Urinary management including regulation of uric acid excretion and urinary pH is an important consideration along with the control of the serum urate level in the treatment of gout or hyperuricemia. For appropriate management of urine, accurate evaluation of the solubility of urate, as well as that of uric acid, is necessary, because the greater portion of uric acid exists in the form of urate in the physiological range of urinary pH.
