Hypoxemia is a consequence of many diseases and it is imperative that the physician has the necessary tools to evaluate it. Kirby index or PaO 2 /FiO 2 is a ratio which indirectly measures the lung injury in the pediatric stage its proven application is as a predictor of mortality. The entities that manifest with acute respiratory distress syndrome benefit from this formula. In the following the directions for use, limitations and adjustments in cities like the capital of Mexico are presented.
