Abstract 13731: Telephone Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Process Measures and Survival After Pediatric OHCA

2017
Background: Telephone cardiopulmonary resuscitation (TCPR) is associated with improved patient outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Compared with TCPR for adults, little is known about TCPR process in pediatric arrests. Objective: Compare TCPR process metrics and patient outcomes between pediatric and adult OHCAs. Methods: Observational study of suspected and confirmed OHCAs in Arizona between 1/2011 and 12/2014. Telephone process metrics were extracted from suspected OHCA audio recordings at 3 regional 9-1-1 centers and linked to EMS confirmed OHCAs and hospital outcomes. Metrics were compared across 3 groups: ≤ 8 years old, 9-17 years old and ≥18 years old by Chi-Squared test and non-parametric Wilcoxon test. Outcomes of non-traumatic OHCAs were assessed by a logistic regression model controlling for known confounders. Results: For process analysis, there were 78, 45, and 2703 patients in the respective groups after exclusions. Call takers (CTs) recognized the need for CPR in 93.6% (73/...
