[Total heterotopic transplant of the small intestine in rats. Technical considerations on organ acquiring, preservation and transplantation].

1993
: In this paper, we report the modifications incorporated in the technique of the total heterotopic small bowel transplantation in the rat. Since the original description of Monchik and Russell in 1971, we evaluate all technical, preservation and transplantation aspects of the procedure. We review all the results from our laboratories and introduced new concepts on management and treatment. A total of 80 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided in 3 groups (immediate fresh transplant, 24 hours preservation with UW solution and with ADAAV) with immediate results of 80, 50 and 70 per cent survival respectively for the groups studied. The advantages of our technique are reviewed to bring about the best steps that need to be added for clinical transplantation.
