Pulmonary infiltrates, pericarditis and eosinophilia: A unique case of the pulmonary infiltration and eosinophilia syndrome
1964
Abstract A young woman afflicted with recurrent respiratory distress, pulmonary infiltrations, eosinophilia and eosinophilic pericarditis has been studied extensively for three years with emphasis on the importance of establishing a precise etiologic diagnosis among the diverse diseases known to produce the P.I.E. syndrome. Selective periodic treatment with adrenocorticosteroids was extremely effective. This is the first case of the idiopathic type in which massive pericardial effusion containing large numbers of eosinophils was demonstrated.
