Damping properties of the breathing mode in 208Pb

Abstract We study the properties of the isoscalar monopole resonance in 208 Pb, within the framework of a self-consistent model employing a Skyrme force. Including the coupling of the resonance to a set of particle-hole-phonon configurations, we obtain both a good description of the strength function of the mode and a consistent accout of the neutron decay of the resonance.
