Clinical and pathological characteristics of IgA nephropathy patients with hyperuricemia

2012
Objective To investigate the clinical and pathological characteristics of IgA nephropathy patients with hyperuricemia. Methods Three hundreds and eleven IgA nephropathy patients confirmed by renal biopsy from January 2009 to January 2010 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into the two groups: IgA nephropathy patients with or without hyperuricemia. A comparative analysis of clinical manifestations and renal pathological injuries was performed between the two groups. Results The prevalence rate of hyperuricemia in IgA nephropathy patients was 47.9%. There were remarkable differences between the two groups in the ratio of male gender, 24-hour urine protein level, kidney function levels, hypertension, obesity and renal pathological injuries. Conclusions The prevalence of hyperuricemia in IgA nephropathy patients is high. Clinical manifestations and renal pathological lesions in IgA nephropathy patients with hyperuricemia are more severe compared to those with normal serum uric acid level.
