Luminescent properties of Eu3+ doped CaF2, SrF2, BaF2 and PbF2 powders prepared by high-energy ball milling

Abstract Eu 3+ doped metal fluorides in fluorite structure were prepared on a solvent-free mechanochemical synthesis route. Beside structural characterization by XRD and 19 F MAS NMR, their luminescence behavior was followed in dependence on the Eu 3+ content and in comparison with other synthesis strategies. High luminescence life times were measured for as-prepared nanoparticles. Additionally, pure EuF 3 was mechanochemically prepared and characterized for comparison.
