EFFECTS OF DIURETICS AND DIAZOXIDE ON RAT BRAIN CATECHOLAMINE

1979
The effect of chlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, furosemide, diazoxide and saline, i. p., on tissue catecholamines, were studied on diencephalon and pons-medulla oblongata in male wistar rats. Diencephalic dopamine decreased with chlorothiazide, chlorthalidone and diazoxide. Diencephalic noradrenaline decreased with chlorthalidone. Pons-medulla noradrenaline was increased with diazoxide. Furosemide did no affect catecholamines. These results suggest that antihypertensive mechanism of some diuretics and diazoxide implicates an influence on central nervous system.
