Neutron-induced radionuclides in soil from the JCO campus by non-destructive γ-ray spectrometry
2000
Abstract Neutron-induced radionuclides in soil samples from the JCO campus were measured by non-destructive γ-ray spectrometry. 24 Na, 59 Fe, 60 Co and 140 La etc., all of which were produced by (n, γ) reaction, were detected in the soil collected within 30–50 m of the precipitation tank. Meanwhile, the fast neutron product, 54 Mn , produced by (n,p) reaction, was detected only in 5 samples collected at points close to the precipitation tank. 46 Sc , produced both by thermal and fast neutrons from 45 Sc and 46 Ti , was detected in most of the samples from the area within 70 m. A volatile fission product, 131 I , was also detected in most samples.
