Rodent model for fibromyalgia and chronic pain

2013
The object of the present invention relates to a rodent model for fibromyalgia and chronic pain induced by pharmacological and nutritional treatments and evaluating the response by brain imaging. It has been shown that by the partial inhibition of the levels of Coenzyme Q in rodents, the most common symptoms of fibromyalgia are reproduced as they are pain, depression, anxiety, memory impairment and sleep and all biological alterations described in disease such as inflammation, oxidative stress, serotonin deficiency. On the other hand, also the overexpression of a marker gene demonstrated pain, which gives us a molecular tool for the assessment and management of pain.
