Girls on Boys' Teams

In Reply.— Dr Goldenring expresses a viewpoint probably widely shared by pediatricians, and the last statement on this subject by the American Academy of Pediatrics (Pediatrics 1975;55:563) advises against girls competing against boys in "heavy collision sports." However, I personally believe that in schools in which separate teams for a particular sport for boys and girls do not exist, girls should have the opportunity to compete for a position on the "boys" team, regardless of whether or not it is a collision sport.
