AIM To explore the prevalence of anaemia in HIV infected pregnant women, its role in maternal and infant birth outcomes and it’s response to the use of antiretroviral drugs. OBJECTIVES Primary Objectives To determine the incidence, prevalence and type of anaemia in HIV infected pregnant women. To describe the effects of anaemia in pregnancy on obstetric, maternal and infant birth outcomes. Secondary Objectives To explore the association between HIV disease staging and severity of anaemia during pregnancy. To describe the progression of anaemia during pregnancy in response to antiretroviral agents To determine the incidence of anaemia in HIV exposed neonates in association with anaemia in their mothers.
