The Role of Apolipoprotein (a) in Childhood Thromboembolism

Elevated lipoprotein (a) concentrations are independent risk factors of coronary heart disease or stroke in young adults. To claify its role in childhood thrombosis, Lp (a) was measured in a population with arterial or venous thrombosis. Increased Lp (a) was diagnosed in eight of 36 children with arterial and five out of 36 children with venous thrombosis. Data of this study indicate that increased Lp (a) concentrations play an important role in childhood thrombosis.
