PP169-SUN THE PREVALENCE OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY IN SPINAL CORD INJURIES PATIENTS

2013
Results: 11 (4%) patients were screened as malnourished (low BMI) and referred to the dietitian. With the recommended screening tool (SNAQ + BMI) 79 patients were indicated as malnourished. Mean BMI was 26.8 kg/m2 (±5.6). BMI >25 kg/m2 was present among 165 (60.2%) patients. 59% of the patients with ovarian carcinoma had BMI >25 kg/m2, 54% of cervix carcinoma, 66% of vulva carcinoma and 73% of other carcinomas. Patients with cervix and ovarian carcinomas were significantly lower in weight (p = 0.004). Conclusion: More malnourished patients can be identified by the advised screenings method (SNAQ+MBI) and thus be treated before starting oncology treatment (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery). Patients with ovarian and cervix carcinoma should standardly be referred for nutritional assessment and treatment. We developed for the patients with BMI >25 kg/m2 a brochure in which the attention is focused on protein intake and not energy.
