Efficacy and Nursing of Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Injection in the Treatment of Acute Hyperglycemia in Diabetic Patients

2007
Objective To investigate the efficacy and nursing interventions of continuous subcutaneous insulin injection (CSII) in the treatment of acute hyperglycemia in diabetic patients. Methods Fifty-three hyperglycemia diabetic subjects admitted from Emergency Department were divided into two groups: group A (CSII group, 20 cases); group B (intravenous infusion of low dose insulin, then subcutaneous injection after controlling of blood glucose, 33 cases). The differences in blood glucose levels in the first 10 days were evaluated. Results Both group A and group B lowered blood glucose rapidly, and there were no significant differences between them (all P0.05), while efficacy of group A is better (all P0.01). The incidence of hypoglycemia was higher in group A than in group B (P0.05).Conclusion CSII can release from the condition of acute hyperglycemia in diabetic patients as intravenous infusion of low dose insulin. And it can bring a better control of blood glucose. Sufficient fluid infusion and carefully monitoring can assure the efficacy in order to avoid hypoglycemia.
