The Role of Vitamin C and Oxidative Stress in Diabetes Mellitus

2013
The involvement of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus has been con firmed by numerous studies.Vitamin C as the body's primary water-soluble antioxidant has an inseparable relationship with diabetes mellitus.Vitamin C can improve the diabetes-mediated oxidative stress level in cells, animal models, and human participants, which is an active interaction between the anti-oxidative system, however more studies are required to make definitive conclusions about whether it has a protective effect on endothelial cell, and if vitamin C supplementation can lower the oxidative stress level in diabetic persons.
