Determination of Plasma Homocysteine Level and Its Relationship with Ischemic Cardio-cerebrovascular Diseases

2003
Objective:To develop a new and highly sensitive HPLC method for measuring plasma homocysteine(Hcy)and reveal its relationship with ischemic cardio_cerebrovascular diseases. Methods:Plasma Hcy was precolumn derivated by ophthaldialdehyde(OPA).The analysis which was carried out on a reversed_phase C 18 column was bases on spectrofluorimetic detection. The plasma Hcy levels were measured in a group of normal subjects and patients with coronary heart diseases and stroke. Results:The methodological evaluation showed that the recovery was 89.5-104.5%,the linearity was from 0 to 100 μmol/L.The mean plasma Hcy level in coronary heart disease and stroke patients were significantly higher than that in normal controls. Conclusion:HPLC method was simple, sensitive and accurate, and can be used in clinical laboratories for routine analysis and research works for Hcy.There is a close relationship between Hcy and ischemic cardio_cerebrovascular diaeases.
