New findings on the effects of furosemide and its mechanisms

: The paper is a review of the recent literature concerned with renal and extrarenal action of furosemide and its mechanisms which were investigated above all in healthy subjects. The author draws attention to the variety of effects, on their partial independence and to the participation of modulators, in particular prostaglandins, in their manifestation. The second part of the article is devoted to the action of furosemide under pathological conditions and to neurohumoral mechanisms which modify it.
