Antidotes for Methanol and Ethylene Glycol Poisoning-A REAL Challenge!

1997
Methanol and ethylene glycol diagnosis ant treatment pose many challenging problems for a modem day toxicologist. These poisonings are closely related because the parent compounds are not themselves toxic, but their metabolism via alcohol dehydrogenase to compounds which are highly toxic creates many of the clinical features of the poisoning. This lethal synthesis concept also allows for consideration of unique antidotes and makes for great teaching to our colleagues in the management of gap metabolic acidosis patients.
