The effect of early Atorvastatinon therapy on serum levels of high-sensitive C-reactive protein in acute coronary syndrome

2007
Objective To investigate the effect of different doses of Atorvastatinon on serum levels of high-sensitive C -reactive protein (hs-CRP) in the early phase of acute coronary syndrome(ACS). Methods Thirty-eight patients with ACS were randomly separated into two groups. 20 patients in group A were given Atorvastatin 10mg once daily for 2 weeks and 18 patients in group B received Atorvastatin 20mg once daily for 2 weeks. 20 patients with stable angina pectoris served controls. The serum levels of hs-CRP before and after therapy were measured. Results ①The serum levels of hs-CRP in the patients with ACS were significantly higher than those in the patients with stable angina pectoris (P0.05). ②The serum levels of hs-CRP significantly lowered after two weeks of therapy in the two Atorvastatin treated groups (P0.01), especially in the 20mg Atorvastatin group. ③The serum levels of hs-CRP had a significant positive correlation in the patients with ACS, but no relationship were observed between TC、TG、LDL-C、HDL-C and hs-CRP by Pearson correlation analysis. Conclusions The serum levels of hs-CRP are increased in patients with ACS and early Atorvastatin intervention may decease dose-dependently the serum levels of hs-CRP. Theanti-inflammatory effect of Atorvastatin maybe beyond that of lipid lowering. Early intensive Atorvastatin treatment may yield more significant benefits in the patients with ACS.
