Hyponatremia Complicating Esophageal Carcinoma: A Challenging Differential Diagnosis

Abstract Hyponatremia is a common complication of cancer and of cancer therapy. Awareness of the many causes of hyponatremia in this setting is critical for ordering the appropriate diagnostic tests, instituting the appropriate treatment, and assessing prognosis of the disorder. This case report highlights the challenges in identifying the cause of hyponatremia in some oncology settings and how misdiagnosis can delay appropriate therapy.
