Human immunodeficiency virus and blood transfusion

1988
It was recognised in 1982 that AIDS could be transmitted by the transfusion of blood and blood products.(1.2) Since then, more cases of HIV transmission through transfusions have come to light and counter measures have been undertaken to reduce this risk. This paper reviews the literature and describes some of these preventative measures with particular reference to the experience in the UK.
