The ICARUS T600 detector overhaul at CERN

Abstract The ICARUS T600 detector has been successfully operated for three years at the Italian Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory (LNGS), collecting cosmic neutrinos and ν μ ’s from the CERN-Neutrino-to-Gran-Sasso (CNGS) beam. The experiment was completed in 2013, and in December 2014 the detector was moved to CERN for a complete overhaul, which took 2.5 years. Its main goal was to introduce new detectors and technological solutions (hardware- and software-wise), to a TPC that already proved to be a perfect instrument for neutrino physics. This allows exploiting the T600 as far station within the shallow-depth, Short Baseline Neutrino program (SBN) at FNAL, dedicated to the definitive clarification of the sterile neutrino hypothesis.
