Masked vitamin B12 deficiency anemia as if it was haemolytic anemia.

2008
In anemias, erythrocyte indexes and clinical findings are the parameters which determine the algorithm in differential diagnosis. However, when different etiologies and diseases are present simultaneously, the case becomes complex. Some of the signs and symptoms may be masked and some may be exaggerated. Since we considered our patient to be a good example of such a case we wanted to report it. Although there was a deficiency of vitamin B12, erythrocyte indexes were compatible with mycrocytic anemia because of thalassemia minor in the background, and an exaggerated increase in indirect bilirubine was seen, as if hemolytic anemia was present.
