Does Serum Magnesium Concentration Prevent Mitral Annular Calcification in Hemodialysis Patients

1997
Cardiac valve calcifications are common in patients on chronic hemodialysis. Magnesium (Mg) status is one of several factors implicated in the pathogenesis of this complication (Meema et al., 1987; Rostand et al., 1988). The present study was scheduled to study the relationship between mitral annular calcification and various biochemical, hormonal, and demographic parameters, namely serum Mg, calcium (Ca), phosphate (P), CaXP product, parathyroid (PTH) levels, age and duration of dialysis therapy, in patients on chronic hemodialysis.
