Modern technologies in management of diabetes. Artificial pancreas: a clinician’s view on the problem and prospects

Improvement of technologies for the management of diabetes type 1 create new approaches and renew existing ways of control diabetes. A lot of studies are being conducted to evaluate management of diabetes type 1 that is achieved by using technologies. Recent developments in diabetes technology and their increasing availability have had a positive impact on people with diabetes lifestyle. Glucose monitoring is the primary tool for management diabetes. An insulin pump is the gold standard for influencing instable glycemic control. The combination of these two systems – allows to develop and implement a system of artificial pancreas, which can be a bridge between two existing technologies: an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor. However, the artificial pancreas system requires regulatory approval, which slows down the development this technology. A tech-savvy generation of people with diabetes is promoting the development of an artificial pancreas system without regulatory approval.The aim of the article is to analyze the real clinical situation about modern methods of insulin therapy and glycemic control.
